Slow internet connection due to nationwide DDoS attack on SURF

On 16 and 17 January 2025, the network of SURF, the ICT cooperative for educational and research institutions in the Netherlands, was hit by a DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack on their network.

Update  17 January 12:00 am: The attack has been stopped. SURF is still monitoring the network. Stay alert for suspicious (phishing) e-mails and do not just click on links in e-mails. Always report a phishing mail to the ICT Helpdesk.

Update 17 January 10:30 am: Again, there is a DDoS attack on the network of SURF. In parallel, a phishing mail has been circulated within the university. Please be extra alert for links in emails.

Update 16 January 5:00 pm: the disruption has been resolved. Extra measures have been taken to login safer at eduVPN.
