Students who are enrolled in a regular, full-time degree programme (i.e. a programme that is part of the regular Dutch higher education system and is financed by the Dutch government) may, depending on their nationality or residence permit, be eligible for Dutch student finance.
Dutch student finance consists of different components:
- Basic grant
- Supplementary grant (depending on your parents' income)
- Student travel product (public transport for free or at a discounted rate)
- Interest bearing loan
- Tuition fees loan
You decide which components you apply for. Everyone who is entitled to student finance receives a basic grant and student travel product. Additionally you can apply for a supplementary grant and a loan.

Conditions
The general eligibility requirements for age, education and nationality:
- You must be younger than 30 on the day your student finance starts.
- You are enrolled in a full-time programme that lasts at least 1 year.
- You have the Dutch nationality, a residence permit (there may be additional requirements), or the EU/EEA, Swiss or UK nationality (you must meet regarding your work status in the Netherlands).
For EU/EEA students and Swiss students under 30 years of age, you are eligible if you work at least 32 hours per month in the Netherlands, or have been living in the Netherlands for five years or more.

Tuition fees loan
If you are not eligible for Dutch student finance and you are an EEA or Swiss national (or you have the British nationality and you have an article 50 residence permit) you may still be eligible for a loan towards the payment of your tuition fees.
