Gabi Schaap is Assistant Professor. His research topic is 'The Digital Mind': what are the consequences of the ever growing pervasiveness and dependency on artificial intelligence (AI), algorithms, and digital mobile technologies in our daily lives?
He is particularly interested in how phenomena such as automated decision making and advice by AI and algorithms, and media multitasking, second screen usage and outsourcing of our minds to technology ('extended mind') influence coming generations' sense of autonomy, and processing of information and thinking. Thanks to technology, are we increasing or deteriorating our autonomy, our capacity for concentration, self control, and deep and creative thinking? What does this all mean for our informedness, wellbeing, and sense of autonomy in the near and distant future?
Other research topics include the correction of public misperceptions in informative media (e.g. on climate change and vaccination), and VR as a technology to make news.
