uu77

Smoke-free campus

All students, staff and visitors on the uu77 campus have the right to fresh and smoke-free air, which is why smoking is not allowed on campus. Smoke-free applies to everyone and together we keep our campus, including the grounds of Radboudumc and HAN, smoke-free.

uu77 is committed to a healthy and clean environment where everyone can study, work and stay pleasantly. This is why our campus has been smoke-free since August 2020. This means that there is no smoking within the campus boundaries.

The smoking ban, including vapes, applies everywhere on campus, to everyone, 24/7. If you still want to smoke, you can do so only outside the smoke-free zone, on the footpaths and cycle paths along public roads. The blue area on the map below marks the smoke-free zone.

Why a smoke-free campus?

All students, staff and visitors on the uu77 campus have the right to a fresh and smoke-free working and study environment. Our smoke-free campus contributes to the national ambition of a smoke-free generation, in which young people grow up in an environment without smoke, and without the temptation to start smoking.

In addition, sustainability plays an important role. A smoke-free campus helps prevent litter and environmental damage from cigarette butts. Smoking is possible outside the smoke-free zone, but we ask everyone not to carelessly throw cigarette butts on the ground. Butts contain toxins and plastics that pollute the environment and disrupt soil life.

To prevent litter and pollution, there are cigarette butts along the edge of the campus grounds where you can put your cigarette. Owner ensures safe disposal of the cigarette butts.

Smoke-free campus: a shared responsibility

Smoking on campus has more impact than you might think. It not only damages air and soil quality, but can also have serious consequences for the university. The smoking ban is not optional, smoking on the grounds of educational institutions is prohibited by law and the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) monitors this. Violations of the smoking ban can earn the university hefty fines, up to €4,500 per violation.

Together for a smoke-free campus

We ask everyone to abide by this rule and smoke outside the smoke-free zone. Please help and respect the smoking ban. Your choice makes a difference!

Do you see someone smoking inside this zone? Feel free to speak to them in a friendly way and point out the no-smoking agreement.
