Lodging an objection with the Executive Board

If you disagree with a decision that pertains to your registration or deregistration, tuition fees, financial support, admission to a Bachelor’s programme or selection for a numerus fixus study programme, you can lodge an objection with the Executive Board. You can also lodge an objection if the Executive Board does not reach a (timely) decision.

Conditions

Objections may only be lodged in response to an official decision that has been communicated in writing by or on behalf of the Executive Board.

The objection must be received within six weeks of the date of the decision. If your objection is not received on time, it may be declared inadmissible. In such cases, the objection will not be dealt with substantively.

If you need more time, you may lodge a pro forma objection within the six-week period; when doing so, you will need to specify the decision to which your objection pertains. Once the Executive Board has received the pro forma objection, it will set a time limit within which you will ultimately be required to explain the content of your objection.

How do I lodge an objection?

Objections may be lodged digitally via the Central Office Legal Protection Students. If you wish to lodge your objection by post, please ensure that it contains the following information:

  • The name and address of the person who is lodging the objection;
  • The date and signature of the person who is lodging the objection;
  • The name of the study programme, student number, telephone number and email address of the person who is lodging the objection (any emails that pertain to the handling of the objection will be sent to an @ru.nl email address);
  • A list of the reasons for why you are objecting to the decision;
  • A description of the decision against which you are objecting;
  • A copy of the decision against which you are objecting.

Your objection should subsequently be sent to:

The Executive Board
P.O. Box 9102
6500 HC Nijmegen

You can also hand-deliver your objection to the Berchmanianum receptionist at Houtlaan 4 in Nijmegen. In this case, you will need to make sure that the receptionist records the date of receipt.

Procedure

  1. Once your objection has been received, you will receive an acknowledgement of receipt. If there is any information missing from your objection, you will be given the opportunity to complete the details.
  2. The confirmation of receipt contains details about how your objection will be handled.
  3. During the procedure, you will usually be given the opportunity to explain your objection during a hearing. The Disputes Advisory Committee shall hear from all of the parties involved. If you wish, you may seek the assistance of an authorised representative. After the hearing, the Disputes Advisory Committee will issue a recommendation to the Board about the objection and the decision that is to be taken. A hearing may be waived if the objection is inadmissible, pre-emptively rejected or if your objection has been met. You can also elect to waive this option.
  4. The Executive Board will make a decision within ten weeks of receiving the objection, and in doing so, will take into account the recommendation that was made by the Disputes Advisory Committee. The details of this decision will be forwarded to you.

The rules on the appeal procedure to the Executive Board can be found in section 3.3 and appendix 5 of the Executive and Management Regulations.

Appeal

If your objection has been resolved and you do not agree with the outcome, you may subsequently lodge an appeal with the Appeals Tribunal for Higher Education.

Please note: as of 1 January 2023, the Higher Education Appeals Board will be discontinued. From that date, the tasks of this Board will be continued by the .
